A PAIR of sporting sensations received special awards at St Aelred's RC Technology College on Friday.
Eighteen-year-old Nicola Eden and Lee Mitchell, aged 16, were given awards in recognition of their contributions to sport both in and out of school.
Miss Gill Shone, head of PE, said: "Both Lee and Nicola have made superlative contributions to sport, both in St Aelred's, and for their respective clubs."
Nicola Eden is the only pupil to win the college's Michelle Woods Memorial Trophy for the second time, an award made because of her commitment to netball and sport in general.
Nicola, who was described as an inspiration to many younger pupils, has refereed county level matches and intends to become a PE teacher.
Lee, who played for the England U16 rugby league side against France cadets at Halton Stadium in March, donated his rugby shirt to the college.
The second-row forward was awarded the school's Ken Grundy Award and is eager to pursue a career in rugby league when he leaves St Aelred's.
