A THIRTEEN-year-old girl suffered cuts and bruises when she was robbed by two other teenage girls in Newton on Saturday.

At around 9pm on Saturday, the girl was walking on a pathway at the back of Birley Street when two teenage girls befriended her.

The girls then demanded that the 13-year-old give them her jewellery and mobile phone.

Police believe that a fight may have then started between the victim and the offenders, during which the girl suffered cuts and bruises.

Merseyside Police are appealing for information.

The first offender is described as white, around 16 years old and of a large build.

She had blonde hair in a ponytail and with a fringe, small narrow eyes and shaped eyebrows, and was wearing black pants and a zip-up jacket with zipped pockets.

The second offender is described as white, 13 years old with small eyes and brown hair, which was also tied back in a ponytail.

DC Sheila Gaskell said: "This is an unusual robbery in that the offenders have been chatting to the young girl, perhaps to catch her unawares, before robbing her. A number of people were in the area at this time, some of whom will have walked past the girls.

"I would appeal to anyone who may have seen the offenders in the area to let us know.

"Perhaps you saw the girls talking together or you witnessed the subsequent assault.

"This type of behaviour is totally unacceptable and I would urge anyone who knows who these girls are to come forward."

Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
