CREWE CC 1st XI halted their recent losing sequence with a creditable draw when they visited reigning champions Knypersley last Saturday.

Knypersley batted first and Kashi Rao made an early breakthrough when Doorbar was well caught at mid on by Ian Precious. Rao and Phil Cottrell continued to bowl well without any luck until Rao had Goodwin caught at long off with the score on 53.

Alan Clarke then trapped fomer Crewe player Gareth Coates lbw to leave the home side on 70 for three. At this point the Knypersley skipper Darren Long took control and played a fine innings of 83 not out before declaring on 169 for five.

Crewe were left with just two hours ten minutes to bat and with key batsmen Simon Walton and Tony Waddington both feeling unwell decided to bat out for a draw.

After the early loss of Precious for six Joe Boyle 11 and Andy Mayneflower 31 batted sensibly before they were both dismissed lbw.

Andy Whittingham made a solid 23 and then a late flurry of runs from Waddington 35 took Crewe to 112 for eight with Waddington falling to the last ball of the match.

Crewe took Knypersley's eight and face a vital home match this Saturday against fellow strugglers Ashcombe Park

IN the Midland Bank Sunday League Crewe scored a fourth successive victory against Mold - 219 for nine off 40 overs and dimissed Mold for 49.

This Sunday the team travel to Mochdre near Colwyn Bay.
