THIS week's Warrington Anglers' Association hotspot is tiny Acker's Pit, topping the bill with roach and tench catches to any form of maggot or casters.

The water is coloured and quality fish can be taken close to the bank.

Cicily Mill Pool, another of our smaller fisheries, has produced good tench catches this past few days with Ian Hunt netting a personal best specimen of just over 7lbs. Ian also had smaller tench and two decent bream in his evening session, all taken on sweetcorn.

Tench are also on the menu at Rookery Pool again. Corn is the boss bait but boiles are worth a try. A few bream have shown around 2-5-0 and skimmers to 1lbs. Plenty of small rudd and roach that attack any maggots and the usual jack pike that are always waiting for the chance of an easy meal.

I have had a few reports of the Moat at Sutton Weaver that, although heavily weeded, tench and perch along with a few roach are being caught along the long straight part of the fishery.

I had a walk up there myself and the pegs that are being fished are obvious. I would advise members making their first trip to have a look initially without tackle.

Alongside the Moat runs our lower stretch of the River Weaver and I noticed that members have made several pegs below the weir. I really would appreciate any info on their catches if any.

Grey Mist Mere is a bit slow at present with best fish reported a mirror or 18lbs taken on a pop-up fishmeal boilie. An explosion of weed is presenting some problems and we are looking at methods of control.

Moore Quarry is still fishing best during early or late sessions with bream and tench taken from the margins. A long cast is definitely not needed as the fish are virtually under your feet. A few quality roach around the 1lb mark are showing. Lots of fish can be seen looking down from the high banks.

On the rivers there has been some welcome rain this past few days and if conditions don't worsen the prospects look good for the weekend. The Trent at Claymills, despite heavy weed, has produced several decent roach and chub catches from pegs just above and below the sluice area. Mike Emmerson fished caster over hemp for a mixed net of roach and chub with fish to 1.5lbs. He told me that one member had a bream of 6lbs amongst a net of skimmers taken only a rod length out. More reports please.

On the trout scene, catches have dramatically improved with an average of 2.71. I, for one, am relieved as at this time of year there is always a period when you know the fish are there, you can see them, but just try and catch them! Morning sessions are definitely getting the better results.

The trout match arranged for 6am on Sunday is cancelled and will be re-scheduled. The fishery is open as normal on Sunday morning.

Well done to our junior match squad who fielded two teams in last week's NFA national event on the River Nene. Up against some crack river teams they came ninth and 22nd from 69 teams. We also managed individual fifth in the reserves match.

Best of luck to our women's match group who are fishing their NFA national competition tomorrow, Saturday, on the Middle Trent at Burton Joyce and Stoke Bardolph.

HQ Parker Street, is open as usual tonight, Friday, for subscriptions and new members or just a chat. I can be contacted with your queries or catch reports on 01928 716238.
