DOTING mum Hannah Davies spent years blaming herself for the unruly behaviour of her son, Thomas.

In fact her "problem" child was suffering from a medical condition which changed his personality.

Now aged 10 Thomas takes drugs to calm his behaviour.

And when his friends move up to secondary school in September he will stay in a special one-to-one teaching programme at primary school.

If it wasn't for his medicines his mum would not be able to cope.

But it took nine years of struggling with medics and education chiefs to finally realise he wasn't just a naughty boy.

"From 12-months-old I felt there was something wrong with Thomas.

"He never slept, always out of bed running around. I was up all night trying to calm him down," said Mrs Davies, of Whinchatt Drive, Oakwood.

Hannah, aged 42, battled for nine years to try to find out why her son was acting in such a way.

His behavioural problems included:

SCRIBBLING across the whole of his bedroom with red pen

SCREAMING at the top of his voice trying to sing.

RUNNING into the road and lying in front of oncoming traffic.

Eventually Thomas was prescribed with Ritalin - a drug which replaces a number of chemicals in the brain.

His condition is ADHD - Attention Defect Hyper activity Disorder.

Since then Hannah has been able to sleep at night.

But she says there may be hundreds of children out there who their parents' feel are just badly behaved.

"Nobody wants to know about it...They don't want to listen and they think he is badly behaved.

"There was a time when I would cry all night because I couldn't cope."
