I COULDN'T believe my eyes when I read in the GUARDIAN that someone has decided the ducks on Ackers Pits need to be culled.

I can only assume that the people who have made this decision to kill the ducks are completely ignorant of the ways of wild ducks.

Please allow me to explain. Ducks are birds, ie they have feathers and fly.

Warrington is surrounded by water courses and the ducks fly from one stretch of water to another. They fly over my house every day.

There is no resident population of ducks on Ackers Pits - they come and go all the time. Sometimes there are as many as 40 or 50 ducks, sometimes as few as six.

Come on, own up. What's the real reason for killing the ducks? It couldn't be because a lot of people bring their children to feed the ducks?

Hands up those people who don't like others enjoying the wildlife on the Pits!

Until we are given the real reason for killing them, may I ask whoever is concerned to leave the ducks alone.

There have also been water rats around the Pits for as long as I can remember, about 40 years. JOHN HEWITT, Fairfield Gardens, Stockton Heath
