JANICE Hayes, education officer at Warrington Museum and Carolynne Gavaghan, community tutor at Priestley College, are looking for stories about Dallam and Westy which they hope can be turned into booklets.

Historical and present day facts which help to paint a picture of the areas are being compiled, following weekly meetings in both areas.

Janice and Carolynne hope that the research can later be extended to other communities in Warrington and that the stories can be compiled into a book to mark the 150th anniversary of the town next year.

Said Janice: "People are telling us about the games they used to play as children, street parties and other things, but we want more stories and pictures. Anyone can come to the meetings."

Community development officers Linda Lomax (Dallam) and Mo Mitchell (Westy) are helping with the research.

Said Linda: "This is an exciting venture, recording the history of the people before it is too late. Many old photographs have been examined and stories written, but this is only the tip of the iceberg.

"There is such a wealth of history and lifestyles waiting to be unearthed. For many people it is a golden opportunity for their family memories and histories to be written down."

One of Linda's aims is to track down some of the first people to live in the flats in Harrison Square.

The meetings are held weekly at Dallam Community House on Wednesdays and St Margaret's Community House, Westy, on Thursdays.
