On her bike to India

SUPERGRAN Violet Palfreyman is gearing up for the adventure of a lifetime - cycling 400 miles across the remote tribal hills of India!

The sprightly 60-year-old aims to complete her epic journey in just nine days.

She will be sleeping rough along the way and hopes that her efforts will raise more than £1,000 for LEPRA, the British Leprosy Relief Association.

Violet, who lives in Astley Close, Warrington, is no stranger to challenges which would leave youngsters quaking in their boots.

In June, she completed the gruelling Three Peaks Challenge, climbing Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis within 36 hours to raise money for charity.

But Violet - who has two sons and two grandchildren - feels that the trip to India, which takes place early next year, will be her toughest test to date.

"I applied to do the bike ride after seeing an advert in the Warrington Guardian," she said. "I had done the Three Peaks Challenge and I thought 'in for a penny in for a pound'.

"It is important that I will be raising money for a good cause, but first and foremost, this is my adventure and I'm really looking forward to it."

Hyperactive Violet has to fit in her training around her job as an auxiliary nurse at Warrington Hospital, her regular jaunts with Warrington Ramblers and her hobby of American line dancing!

"I like to keep as active as possible," she said. "I never have any free time but that's the way I like it."
