DEFENDER Billy Barr gave Crewe the win they wanted on Tuesday with just one minute left before the half time whistle.

"It was a just reward for them at the end of the first half," said manager Dario Gradi. "We earned that goal at half time."

Fran Tierney had looked to start the scoring early when a shot hit the post within three minutes and Brian Launders made some good efforts at goal.

But the scoring only started after 44 minutes when Barr beat the keeper to send the ball into the net.

Dele Adebola was brought on for Launders in the second half and keeper Jason Kearton made some good saves to keep Crewe ahead.

Rotherham came close on a few occasions and Gareth Whalley looked set to increase the score for Crewe at the end of the game but keeper Farrelly tipped the ball over the top of the net.
