The villains struck at Crewe's West Street Post Office at 8.35am yesterday, Wednesday.

They pounced just after the two women workers opened up the post office.

Both the suspects, who wore masks, confronted the women and bundled them into the kitchen area locking the door.

The two men then went through the safe, emptying the contents before making their escape, through the back door.

The women were discovered locked in the kitchen when a third member of staff arrived at about 8.50am and raised the alarm.

The two men wore balaclavas and gloves and did not have noticeable accents. No weapons were seen and the two women were shocked but physically uninjured.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone who saw something unusual in the area to come forward.

Anyone with any information about the robbery is being urged to get in contact with the Crewe CID office on 01270 500222.
