A POPULAR community centre is all set to expand in response to increasing demand.

The Newton Family and Community Centre has been given the go-ahead to extend the building and improve the facilities.

The extension will involve three extra rooms and storage space to the side of the existing building.

Centre worker, Anne Keene, said: "We have just been given an extra £2,500 by Lloyds and TSB towards providing furnishings for the new rooms.

"We have so far managed to raise almost 70 per cent of the funds we need and I would like to thank everyone who has helped us acheive this.

"We decided to extend after a feasibility study revealed we have a potential waiting list for use of the centre.

"The extension will allow us to have a lot more on and improve our standard of service to everyone who uses the centre.

"The centre has been going for more than 10 years and at the moment it has never been busier.

"If any local business would like to help out with funding the extension, we would be very grateful."

If anyone wished to help they can contact Anne on 224731.
