Who will be the 1997 Teacher of the Year?

With 17 individual Teacher of the Week winners to choose from, the final choice will be made by you, the readers.

Here are the 17 Teachers of the Week and it's your chance to decide who is the best teacher in Warrington.

To vote simply put your name and age on a postcard or sealed envelope, along with the name of the teacher you are voting for, and post it to: Young Guardian, Teacher of the Year Title, The Academy, 138 Bridge Street, Warrington WA1 2RU.

The winner will be announced on next week's Young Guardian page.

Miss Grisedale from Beamont Junior School was nominated by eight year old Sam Massey.

He made the nomination because he thinks Miss Grisedale is the "nicest" teacher he has ever known.

He said: "She's kind and lovely."

Mr Delaney from Oughtrington Primary School in Lymm was nominated by Emma Skett.

She said: "He tells jokes and plays tricks but always makes you do your work."

Mr Delaney said his class was "very good" but jokingly promised to get his own back on Emma.

Mr Gray from Dallam County Primary was nominated by Emma Louise Peers.

She said: "He does silly things for charity like busking in the playground for Comic Relief."

Emma helps with his class of special needs children.

Mrs Watts and her teaching assistant, Miss Anderson, were nominated by four-year-old Jonathan Baxter from St Paul of the Cross School.

He said: "They are both so funny, they make us laugh all the time."

Miss Anderson said: "This is the best class I've ever taught."

Mrs Barker from Long Lane Primary School was nominated by Stephanie Arnold.

Six year old Stephanie said: "She is really funny."

Mrs Barker has taught at the school for seven years.

Mrs Baguley of St Andrews School was nominated by five year old Nathan Stanger.

Nathan said: "She never shouts at me and she is kind."

Mrs Baguley said: "They're a lovely class. They are all friendly and affectionate."

Mrs Gaurdern of St Margaret's CE School was nominated by nine year old Rachael Green.

Rachael said: "She is my favourite teacher because she is good at singing and playing the piano."

Miss Harte and Mrs Matthews were nominated by Craig Roby.

They teach together in the Special Needs Unit of Bewsey Lodge School.

Miss Harte (pic right) said: "This is a gorgeous class - they are wonderful."

Miss Wikberg (pic left) and Miss Pilling were nominated by four year old Megan Chisnall.

They teach as a team at Newton Nursery School.

Megan said: "I love them, they are very nice."

Mrs Willcock was nominated by her entire class at Croft Primary.

Each pupil in the Year One class drew a picture and wrote a note saying how nice she was.

Alex Joynes said: "She makes me feel happy after leaving mummy and daddy."

Mr Connor was nominated by twins, Aaron and Kiel Hillman.

The twins, who are in Year Four at St. Stephen's both say he's the best.

Aaron said: "He always makes our lessons fun. He has been in school a long time but he keeps on smiling.

Mrs Mowbray, who teaches at Dallam Primary, was nominated by six year old Kyle Naylor.

Kyle said: "She helps me and all the children in the class to read. She is the best teacher and I love her very much."

She said: "They're a lovely class."

Mrs Clews was nominated by eight year old Zac Taylor, pictured holding the bag of apples.

Zac said: "Mrs Clews works hard with us and is very kind."

Mrs Clews was a supply teacher, but liked Great Sankey School so much she stayed.

Mr Hanlon was nominated by 10 year old Sally Field.

Sally wrote a lovely poem saying how nice Mr Hanlon was.

She said: "He's kind and everybody likes him."

Mr Hanlon has worked at High Legh School for nine years.

Miss Asprey and Mrs Lilly, both Year One teachers at Riverbank Primary, were nominated by twins, Laura and Thomas Simpson, aged six.

Thomas said of Mrs Lilly (pic right): "Nobody can stop looking at her because she is so beautiful."

Mr Morris was nominated by nine year old Shaun Bond.

Mr Morris, who also coaches the Padgate CE School football team, has been at the school a year.

Shaun said: "He's really good, he tells jokes and doesn't give us too much homework."

Mrs Fox was nominated by St Ann's CE Year Six pupil, Nicola Carter.

Nicola gave her a glowing report saying: "Sometimes she gets mad at us if we are naughty but most of the time she is funny and telling jokes."
