TWO brothers who have achieved outstanding success in the martial art of Taekwondo have been awarded £1,000 each by Warrington Borough Council.

The Excellence in Sport Grants made to Daniel and Lee Bennett are a contribution to the cost of travelling to competitions, training and coaching.

Lee, aged 21, is ranked number one in Great Britain and Ireland and is now training for the 1997 World Championships in Hong Kong. Daniel, aged 17, is the All Ireland Junior champion and has represented Great Britain, England and Ireland over the past nine years. He is also in training for the World Championships.

Other recipients of the Excellence in Sports grants for equipment, training and travelling to competitions are:

Craig Lee, aged 17, who was awarded £500. Craig represented the English Schools Rugby League Team in their two matches against the French Schools Rugby League Team.

Jennifer Heath, aged 19, received £500. She has been ranked in the top six in Great Britain and is the current Cheshire Woman Champion over 3000m.

David De Prez, aged 16, was awarded £400. The hockey player has represented England on 17 occasions as a member of their Under 16 squad.

Nick Giles, aged 38, received £750. He has represented Great Britain in cycle racing on three occasions and broke four event records.

In addition, Community Sports Grants have been made to:

Warrington Gymnastic Club - £500.

Warrington Sports Club - Junior Hockey Section - £300.

Warrington Patriots Skater Hockey Club - £300.

John Boote, aged 15, received £300 for travelling to judo competitions and training. He is the north west area Junior Champion and has competed at various competitions in Europe.
