DUNHAM Massey Park will be transformed into a magical setting for Shakespeare's A

Midsummer Night's Dream from July 23 when MIdsommer, the innovative acting company who perform only in the open air, return there for a summer season.

The company, formed by Simon Corble, formerly of Hollinfare, will be at Dunham until August 2 before moving on to a new venue, the Fletcher Moss Park in Didsbury.

Most venues used by the company are off the beaten track but Fletcher Moss will be convenient for people who do not have cars.

Dunham was used in 1994 for Alice and in 1995 for As You Like It.

During Midsommer's shows, the audience follow the company around as natural settings are used for scenery. About half a mile is covered during each performance, which the actors will attempt to continue whatever the weather.

For the second production of the year, Simon has made a special anglicised adaptation of John Steinbeck's classic Of Mice and Men and this can be seen at a Cheshire venue from September 9 and in Royden Park, Wirral, from September 16.

Simon has transferred the action from California in the 1930s to England in the 1920s, the victims being soldiers just back from the trenches in the First World War.
