HOW often do you notice that a paving stone is cracked and not repaired, a litter bin consistently not emptied and a street light not working?

Warrington town centre will now benefit from a scheme which invites shoppers and visitors to note down repairs that are needed and report them directly to the town centre manager, Paul Rice.

A hotline will soon be launched, and will mean that the repairs are made a priority and carried out with speed and efficiency.

In a bid to make Warrington a safer, more attractive place to shop, this latest scheme is just one of the many initiatives introduced by the Warrington Now group.

You may have read about the group in the GUARDIAN , but how much do you know about it?

Launched last year in response to the increasing threats from out of town developments and shopping centres, the group was formed to provide the town with a new identity, to promote its values and to instill a sense of civic pride.

The group is made up of representatives of Warrington Borough Council, local businesses and organisations, and anyone with a vested interest in the future of the town centre.

Initiatives that have been established to date include the introduction of CCTV, a truancy watch scheme, and a soon to be launched ChildWatch scheme, all promoting the centre to be a safe, crime-free zone.
