A SWASHBUCKLING 37 by old timer Ian Sleigh was the highlight of the Warrington innings as they crashed to defeat against visitors Macclesfield in the Cheshire Cricket League.

No other Warrington batsmen came to terms with the bowling of Clark and Garnett and they were all out for 136.

In reply, Macclesfield made a decent start and, despite a fine spell of left arm spin bowling from youngster David De Prez, 2-32 in 17 overs, the visitors got home with four wickets to spare.

The seconds enjoyed better fortunes in their game at Urmston.

The home side took advantage of a good wicket to post an impressive 219-6, despite a fiery 3-29 from John Coneeny.

Warrington then had a tremendous start as Tim Rothwell and Ian Wright put on 167 for the first wicket. Wright was bowled five short of his century.

Keiron Ollier joined Rothwell and kept the chase going and the win came with relative comfort.

Warrington move up to fourth place in the table before meeting Grappenhall tomorrow, Saturday, at Walton Lea.

Top-of-the-league Warrington thirds entertained Urmston.

Good opening bowling spells by Chris Cockburn and Scott Amos failed to move the Urmston openers. The introduction of Brian Coneeny, 6-31, and Lewis Nunn, 3-10, proved crucial as Urmston were bowled out for 116.

An excellent third wicket stand between Mark Johnson, 36, and Mike Lindop, 39 not out, steered Warrington to victory with 17 overs remaining.

The thirds travelled to Didsbury the next day for their quarter-final Jack Gardner Cup tie.

Warrington got off to a good start with opener Goddard hitting 38, ably assisted by Mark Johnson, 51, and Nigel Stanhope, 20, but the team failed to bat their full 45 overs finishing on 153.

The opening bowlers put tremendous pressure on Didsbury's batsmen and with the introduction of Lewis Nunn, 4-17, they put the game out of Didsbury's reach. Warrington won by 24 runs.
