TWINS Katherine and Johnathon Isherwood celebrated their fifth birthday in style.

The children have helped their parents, Joan and Howard, rebuild their lives after the car crash which killed their sons, Andrew, aged nine, and David, aged four.

The crash happened on the Greek island of Crete nearly nine years ago.

This very special party was held at the newly opened pub, the Memphis Belle, in Westbrook.

Howard said: "We had a smashing day. The party was really good.

"It's the first time we've had a party like this. When Andrew and David were alive, venues such as pubs and restaurants didn't do children's parties, and the twins have only just started school so it is the first time they've been able to invite all their friends.

"It is something we would have loved to do with the boys but we never had the chance. It is very bittersweet, you can't really put all your feelings into words.

"A lot of things have changed since the boys died. The house was so quiet for a while, but now it erupts with noise. The twins have brought it alive again.

"Joan and I have changed as well. We are a lot more involved with the twins and their school lives. We didn't think we had time to get so involved when the boys were alive, now we make the time."

The man the Isherwoods say was driving the car in Crete has never been brought to justice.
