STUNNED staff and players at Wilderspool have sent their condolences to former Wire star, Jonathan Davies, whose wife, Karen, has lost her battle against cancer.

Mrs Davies died, aged 34, at the family's home in Cardiff last week.

She had been diagnosed as having stomach cancer early last year, shortly after her husband left Warrington to play rugby union for Cardiff.

News of Mrs Davies's death reached Wilderspool as the Wolves were preparing for Friday night's game at Salford.

Chief executive, John Smith, said: "We would like to express our deepest sympathy and condolences to Jonathan and his family.

"Everyone here who knew Jonathan and Karen is feeling a deep sense of loss.

"I know that Jonathan still keeps in touch with a lot of the Warrington players. He and Karen were a very well-liked couple and Karen was one of the rugby family."

The couple have three children.
