A MOGGY unwittingly took on the role of WARRINGTON GUARDIAN mascot by wandering round town with the newspaper's telephone number on its ID tag.

Security guards, Ray Baker and Bernard Smith, at our Academy offices, received numerous calls from residents and businesses on Chester Road asking them to collect the cat.

But the GUARDIAN has never owned a cat - except YOUNG GUARDIAN's Scoopy.

We traced the black and white moggy to Bridgefoot Motors, Chester Road.

Aaron Bomby, who works at the car showrooms, said: "The cat has been hanging around our offices for weeks. She's very friendly and a real character.

"She spends hours tormenting the guard dog next door. He goes crazy barking at her and she just sits there and looks at him as if to say 'what are you doing?'"

But finally, half the mystery has been solved. The cat turned up sporting a new collar and tag. This one said her name was Mia, gave a different telephone number and an address on Chester Road.

The GUARDIAN was unable to speak to Mia's owner, so why she was carrying the GUARDIAN's number remains unanswered.
