A CAT has died after being mauled by two dogs outside his Great Sankey home.
Floyd, aged four, was in emergency care at Four Paws Vets for more than a week following the ordeal.
His owner Siobhan Dale, of Waterways, said: "The neighbour thought it was my two dogs playing with a rag - one had Floyd's front paw and the other had hold of his back.
"They went running into Sankey Valley Park afterwards. I spoke to the rangers who said they have seen the dogs before - they are both brindle black Staffs - but nobody seems to know who their owner is."
Floyd, whose muscle had been torn to the bone, was taken to a veterinary surgery suffering from shock and had a lumber puncture in his spine and drains through all the wounds.
When the vet operated a tumour was also found and although Floyd survived the operation, he died a week last Friday.
A spokesman for the RSPCA said: "It is important that owners of animals ensure that they are kept under control, otherwise they will do what comes naturally.
"We do get incidents like this but the onus must be on the owners to make sure their animals are well trained."
