INCREASES in the cost of leisure facilities in Vale Royal will come into force on April 1, with the price hikes ranging from two per cent to 10 per cent.

However, the borough council claims it is still keeping its cost below the county average.

A recent survey reviewing pricing comparisons in the borough with other Cheshire authorities and selected national authorities showed that across a range of 12 activities, Vale Royal represents good value.

Once the increases are in force, the cost of an adult swim in Vale Royal will be £2.30, which is still below the Cheshire average of £2.34.

Improvements are planned for the forthcoming year, which include upgraded fitness equipment at Northwich pool, Winsford sports complex and Rudheath Leisure Centre and the expansion of the cardiac rehabilitation programme at the Winsford complex.

Some activities have not increased in price at all while many developmental activities, which take live theatre, dance and music into the community, are offered at reduced cost or for free.

Vale Royal residents can also benefit from reduced prices on a range of activities by purchasing a membership card, which costs £15.60 a year.

And for people on low incomes, concession cards, priced £3.60, provide discounts of up to 30 per cent off standard prices on a range of activities.

Full details of the new charges are available from local leisure facilities, the council's website at www.valeroyal.gov.uk or by ringing leisure and cultural services on 01606 862862.
