DARESBURY laboratory's future is secure despite media claims to the contrary, says Halton Council's chief executive.
Radio 4 said last week's launch of the construction phase of the Diamond project at Rutherford Laboratory spelled the end for the Runcorn lab. Daresbury lost the fight to host the project in March 2000, despite being a hot favourite.
Council chief executive, Mike Cuff, said: "Radio 4's statement is complete nonsense and we see a bright future for Daresbury."
Daresbury is currently hosting three major projects, including the most powerful academic computer in Europe and two more developments are planned, in particular the world-leading fourth generation light source.
Mr Cuff, added: "These projects alone assure the long term future of Daresbury."
