A WOMAN, whose brother-in-law was cared for at the hospice, said further donations were needed to ensure the long-term future of the ward.

Jean Capper, who lives in Knutsford, said it would be a shame if the beds had to close again because of a shortage of funds.

Her sister's husband, Peter Hall, died three weeks ago.

"The hospice is such a cheerful place and the staff are so obliging," she said.

"Peter felt at peace and safe when he was there and got pain control as and when he needed it."

Mr Hall's daughter Helen Foster, who lives in Cambridge, said regular visits to the hospice made her aware of how much the cash was needed.

"While I was there I could see two of the empty beds," she said.

"But because of what I was going through with my dad I didn't see them as just empty beds. I saw them as two families who couldn't have the care that is absolutely essential to them.

"The staff there do a wonderful job and cared for all of us not just my dad.

"They provided emotional and spiritual support and gave us the time to talk."
