AROUND 200 concerned residents attended a meeting this week to find out how to tackle some of the problems hitting Penketh.

The meeting was organised following a spate of recent vandalism that has hit the area and many neighbours turned up to voice their opinion.

And Clr Linda Dirir, Penketh councillor, said Tuesday's meeting had been a success in coming up with resolutions.

She said: "We obviously need to lobby the police for extra resources.

"We are very happy with the police here and the action and the work that they do.

"But we do need some extra support and we will be lobbying for that.

"And we want to see CCTV at Penketh High School. It is one of the only schools in the borough without it and there has been a lot of complaints about it."

She added that another hotspot that needed attending to was Honiton Way, where there has been a spate of burglaries during the past few weeks.

And the meeting discussed wider issues such as problems with teen drinking and drug taking.

Clr Dirir says hopes were high that shopkeepers could be targeted in a bid to prevent the sale of alcohol to under-age people.
