Lostock Parish Council is looking at three sites around Northwich after getting a good response to an appeal made at the start of the month.

The quest to find a suitable site follows a suggestion by members of Lostock's Community Action Team at this month's parish council meeting.

PC Fraser White and PC Sue Parker said they had to spend much of their time warning young people about riding motorbikes on private land.

PC White said it was one of the main forms of anti-social behaviour they encountered and said they needed the community's help to control it.

He said: "Whenever we warn young people about riding motorbikes, they always say there's nothing else for them to do.

"The one thing they always say they want is an off-road site."

Parish council chairman Shaun Wells said he had received some encouraging feedback from the public following the appeal.

He said he would be inspecting sites in Lostock, Helsby and Weaverham that had been suggested to him.

The site in Lostock Gralam is a fallow farming field but Mr Wells said there were issues regarding insurance.

He said: "A farmer can only let a field be used for this sort of purpose for 15 days a year. We can't just get a field and let children play because of insurance."

He said parents had also been encouraging.

He said: "I've spoken to a few parents about it and I've had a lot of feedback. They say they have been trying to ensure their children ride as safely and legally as they can.

"We're hoping some of them will come to the next council meeting to make some comments."

The next parish council meeting will take place at St John the Evangelist Church Hall in Lostock Gralam on Monday, April 5.
