FOUR exhibiting artists at Warrington Museum and Art Gallery have swapped New York and London for Warrington after being so impressed with the (R)Evolution of Urban Art exhibition.
The five month exhibition featuring work from street graffiti and spray paint urban artists like Banksy proved so popular that four of the exhibiting artists have decided to donate pieces of their work to the museum.
Internationally acclaimed artists Elbow-Toe, Swoon, Candice Tripp and Lorraine Robbins, who have recently had solo shows in America, told staff at the museum that they were impressed with what they saw and the response from the public and wanted their work to have a permanent spot on Museum Street.
Cllr Bob Timmis, executive board member for leisure and skills, said: "This thoroughly modern exhibition brought many new visitors to our museum and I am very happy to say we have a permanent reminder of this unique show and its success."
A London-based art dealer considered the exhibition to be so well curated he also offered two pieces of work including a self portrait by Elbow-Toe and a piece by Swoon.
Eight new pieces will therefore be added to the museum’s collection and will be available to view following the refurbishment of the gallery.
The boost folllows the museum and art gallery winning an award last summer at the annual Museum and Heritage Awards for Excellence.
