TRIBUTES have been paid to a ‘popular pupil’ who died when his Ford Transit van collided with an HGV lorry.
Former Culcheth High School pupil Damian Dunn, aged, 20, from Cadishead, died on Saturday following the collision on Manchester Road, Rixton, at 12.05am.
Martyn Froggett, head teacher at the school, said: “Damian was a bright, generous and good-natured young man, a dedicated sportsman and popular pupil during his time with us.
“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.”
More than 800 people have joined tribute groups dedicated to Damian on social networking site Facebook.
Leonie Dunn said: “Love you so much big bro. I wish I got to tell you that before it was too late. I know we had our arguments but what brother and sister doesn’t?
“No matter what you were my big brother and I loved you and I will always love you.
“Life will not be the same without you and I still can’t get over that you are gone.
“You didn’t deserve to go, you never did anything wrong to anyone, you were one of the world’s greatest.
“You were always there for the family and you devoted your life to us and you will never be forgotten.
“We all love you so much.”
The driver of the HGV lorry, from Bolton, suffered minor injuries.
Anyone with any information about the collision should call the roadside policing unit on 01244 613813.
