A 17-YEAR-OLD was subjected to a serious sexual assault in Birchwood.
The teenager was walking along in the Oakwood Gate area on March 2, at around 6.30pm, when a man approached her and subjected her to the attack.
The victim reported the crime on Friday, March 12.
Detectives are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen anyone behaving suspiciously, or can assist the police with the investigation.
DI Mark Tasker said: “Whilst incidents of this nature are very rare in this area, we advise members of the community to exercise care for their own personal safety and avoid walking alone at night in poorly lit or remote areas.
“Anyone with any concerns regarding this matter should contact their local neighbourhood policing team for advice."
