Firefighters called after blaze in Locker Avenue, Orford

A WOMAN had to be taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation after a chip pan caught fire on Mother’s Day.

Neighbours were alerted after hearing the smoke alarm at 6.15pm on Sunday and forced their way into the Locker Avenue home in Orford.

Crews arrived to find a neighbour had assisted the woman to safety before they had been called.

Jami Jennings, red watch manager, said: “Chip pan fires still pose a threat to people’s safety and around 70 percent of accidental home fires begin in the kitchen.

“People need to exercise extreme caution when using chip pans and it is advised that people never leave chip pan fryers unattended and to leave an area immediately once a fire starts.”
