A CHARITABLE team of soldiers are taking on the Trans-Pennine trail in just two days to raise money for the Sandy Lane Children’s Centre.
Troops from the 75 Engineer Regiment will be mountain biking across the 215 mile trail On March 27 and 28 as a fundraiser for the Orford children’s group, who need to develop disabled facilities, and Help the Heroes.
The route, which connects the North and Irish seas, starts from Hornsea on the east coast and finishes on the other side of the country, at Southport.
Penketh pub landlord and soldier Joe Dodd organised the event, with equipment donated by Ron Spencer Cycles, of Orford Lane.
Joe said: “We have been out cycling most days but a lot of us are in our 40s and haven’t been on a bike for years.
“There’s been £500 raised already and we hope to get a few thousand at least.”
