Clr Jo Crotty worried for the future of Warrington Hospital - David Mowat labels her alarmist

MONEY problems in Warrington’s health service are putting the long-term future of the town’s hospital at risk warned a Liberal Democrat councillor.

Following the disclosure of a £13 million black hole in Warrington NHS funds, Clr Jo Crotty is now launching a campaign so health bosses know how people feel about the issue.

But her Conservative rival for the Warrington South seat at the impending general election says she is 'electioneering' and is engaging in 'alarmist nonsense'.

The Lib Dem candidate for the Warrington South seat said: “We now know that NHS Warrington has a funding gap of £13 million. Bosses are now saying they intend to divert services from the hospital to the community in order to save money.

“The big worry is that later this month a £250 million state of the art development is opening at Whiston Hospital. What really worries me is that our hospital in Warrington might be run down or even closed and services moved to Whiston.

“I am starting a campaign now to let NHS bosses know that we do not intend to lie down and risk the loss of our hospital.”

David Mowat, Conservative candidate for Warrington South, said: “We are pleased that the Lib Dems are as concerned as the Conservative party about the NHS in Warrington and have finally decided to join our campaign.

“While there are always issues regarding the NHS provision as we recently showed in our survey, the largest ever completed in Warrington, stories like these are alarmist nonsense.

“And may upset some vulnerable members of our community.

“We should get behind the NHS, not electioneer around it.”

Cllr Crotty - why try and invent the wheel again, by starting a campaign to improve our local hospitals.

We have been campaigning for a number of years now - which you are aware of.

Instead, join OUR campaign -

Quite right!! It's much better to keep them all ignorant. That way unpopular decisions made behind closed doors can get pushed through without too much public resistance, or if they do object it will be too late to do anything about it!

Oh Lord, it must be approaching election time again when the "candidates" start pontificating on all subjects under the sun.
Once elected, will they be so keen to take up the cudgels on local affairs?
I think not.

The PCT firmly believes that quality services and excellent patient experience are paramount. Patient feedback supports the fact that people would rather be treated at home or outside of a hospital setting, and only wish to be treated at hospital if absolutely necessary.

This doesn’t in any way mean that the hospital is going to close that simply isn’t on the agenda, acute services are still required and are still going to be provided from the hospital. The PCT is working with the hospital and others to improve quality and efficiency and value for money.

In terms of some services moving out the hospital, bringing care closer to home this is not in any way driven for financial gain. The aim of care closer to home is to ensure that people are provided with pathways of care which enable them to be treated, as much as possible, at home or in the community.

NHS Warrington - nice political statement. In simple terms, people don't want to go to hospital for many reasons, but more significantly are the growing concerns for the poor standards of Care & Treatment currently being experienced by many patients. Forget trying to diversify more to cater for smaller geographical groups - as new initiatives - look at catering & improving for the MASSES - then when this is achieved the initiatives will pay for themselves. People need to feel safe & trust the NHS - currently the trend is the opposite.

My views are not politically biased - they are from personal experiences and those of many others with similar concerns.
