PLANS to extend the life of Rixton landfill site by a year have been quashed due to the business’ ‘cavalier’ approach.
Members of the council’s development control committee dismissed the proposal to allow developers Collier Industrial Waste Ltd a further year to finish work at Moss Side Lane, Rixton, by January 26, 2011, but allowed a six-month extension.
Speaking in objection to the plan, Clr Bill Brinksman (LAB – Rixton and Woolston), said Rixton had been ‘tipped on’ for 50 years and the work was not of any benefit to Warrington residents because the rubbish is brought from Greater Manchester.
Clr Linda Dirir (Lab – Penketh) said: “They have been very cavalier, they haven’t done any of this work they should have done.”
Clr Tony McCarthy (LAB – Rixton and Woolston) said there had ‘to be an end to the landfill site’ and that the application seemed to be a ‘déjà vu’.
The committee agreed to the extension last Wednesday.
