Sewer work to ease flooding in Penketh under way

WORK to improve Penketh’s sewers will get under way soon as part of the on-going scheme to alleviate sewer flooding in the area.

United utilities has plans to improve the sewer network on Launceston Drive, Chapel Road, Maple Crescent, Thorn Close, Kirkwall Drive, Manston Road and Hall Nook after years of flooding problems.

New sewers will be constructed in Bramble Close and on the playing fields behind St Vincent’s Catholic Primary School and Penketh Community Primary School.

Engineers will also be carrying out some minor works in Stanstead Avenue and Hamble Drive and a site compound on land off Hall Nook, which will remain there for 16 months.

The year-long schedule of work will be split into phases with phase one involving an increase in the size of sewers in Kirkwall Drive, which starts after Easter and takes five weeks to complete.

Steve Knowles, United Utilities’ senior project manager, said: “We will keep residents updated on the timings of the different phases and any potential disruption which may be caused.

“We will do everything possible to ensure any disruption is kept to a minimum and we would like to thank residents for their patience.”
