GREAT Sankey residents have been warned there may be an increase in traffic in the next couple of weeks as improvements start on the Whittle Brook pumping station as part of an on-going scheme to solve sewer flooding.
Warrington Road will be most affected by the extra traffic as a site compound is set up on land next to the pumping station, off Lytham Close, to ease flooding problems in the area.
The compound will allow the a new underground storm water pumping station to be built next to the existing building.
Steve Knowles, United utilities’ senior project manager, said: “The storm water pumping station is designed to capture excess storm water during periods of heavy rainfall.
“This prevents the sewer network becoming overwhelmed and causing sewer flooding to nearby homes.
“The work is scheduled to be completed by January next year and we will continue to keep residents updated as our work progresses.”
