VOLUNTARY sports clubs have been getting more young people throwing, kicking and sprinting their way to fitness by teaming up.

Great Sankey Leisure Centre and Great Sankey High School have joined forces to establish the Great Sankey Community Sports Club Forum, which consists of more than 20 clubs sharing ideas and resources.

The newly-formed group came together two weeks ago for a sporting event which saw hundreds of children trying out the various sporting activities on offer.

Bob Timmis, group executive member, said: “It was real community involvement in action and a great success and we will be looking to organise other events in the near future.”

The group, which meets on a regular basis at Great Sankey High School, has also been successful in attracting funding to support coach education for clubs in the community.

All new and established clubs are welcome to get involved.
