'Cost of keeping youth club open is a bargain'

CAMPAIGNERS behind Lymm Youth Club say they are looking for support after the existing building was named among venues to be considered for sale by the council.

Bosses at Warrington Borough Council published a list of venues that could be considered for sale in the next three years and the Bridgewater Street venue was among them.

And Neville Davies, from the committee, said they were committed to keeping the facility open.

He added: “In meetings with the borough councillors elected to represent Lymm, we have indicated our willingness to work with any development proposals to preserve the facility on this site.

“We have been assured of their support for our project, as have the prospective Labour candidates for both the borough and Parliamentary in the coming elections.

“We continue to trust that our councillors will guarantee our facility in the long term, after all, the building is here and in use.

“The volunteers are here and running the facility at no cost to the council. I’m sure the council will recognise a bargain when they look carefully.”

The club is currently organising a pilot programme called ‘Bridging the Gap’ which provides entertainment for older people, including a tea dance.

Refreshments will be made and served by young people.

Organisers say they hope to increase these activities with interests such as armchair aerobics, manicure tasters, hairdressing, chiropodist visits as well as hobbies.
