Animal magic for residents at Latchford care home

Molly the donkey trotted in to see residents at Westy Hall CLS Care home.

The four legged friend provided pensioners at the home on Marsden Avenue, Latchford, with animal therapy.

The visit was arranged through the Elisabeth Svendsen Trust, which arranges visits to older people and therapy riding for children with special needs.

Janice Johnson, home manager, said: “The use of animals as a form of therapy is widely recognised in care circles for the wonderful benefits it can bring.

“Animals and pets have a special ability to boost morale. They provide companionship and bring happiness and laughter.

“We were all looking forward to welcoming Molly the donkey, who is our most unusual guest so far.”

The home gives residents the opportunity to interact with animals through a number of activities, including visits from owl keepers, dogs from Pets as Therapy and exotic animals.

It is also home to a cat named Squeak, a budgie called Billy and a canary brought in by one of the residents.
