A HEAD teacher has reassured parents that alcohol, drug and substance misuse are not tolerated after a ‘legal drug’ was found at Bridgewater High School.

Police were called to the Appleton school on Friday after a purse containing a substance, believed to be mephedrone, a legal drug which often results in serious side effects, was found.

Tim Long, head teacher, said: “These allegations are being dealt with in accordance with school disciplinary procedures.

“Drug, alcohol or substance misuse is not tolerated in school and any allegations are dealt with swiftly and through the correct channels.

“Following any investigation, we would not hesitate to take whatever action, if any, is necessary.”

He said students are provided with advice and information about drug misuse.

Insp Gary McIntyre, of Warrington South NPU, said: “The substance has since been tested and is not a controlled drug.

“As there is no criminal aspect to the investigation the matter has now been passed back to the school.”

He said police are working with schools across the borough to educate pupils and staff about the potential dangers of substance misuse.
