False claims about Jon Venables in Warrington

POLICE are telling people to ignore ‘hoax’ claims about Jon Venables reoffending in Warrington.

An e-mail and text campaign has hit this week claiming Venables, the killer of Jamie Bulger, was arrested for committing a rape in a school in town.

It names David Calvert, from Fleetwood, as the new identity of Venables and he has gone into hiding for fear of attacks.

The texts have been sent after it was revealed the killer had reoffended and was now back in jail.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said they were aware of the hoax and had received a number of reports.

They are warning people not to forward the message on.
