Great Sankey people complain over treatment from Warrington Borough Council

A HOUSING estate has faced a battle against rubbish, ungritted roads and no playing areas for seven years.

And now residents from Chapelford are calling on quicker action to get their roads adopted by Warrington Borough Council after the long wait.

It follows Whittle Hall councillor Kevin Reynolds asking for a date on when the road would come under the council’s guidance at a council meeting last week.

David Weaver, co-chairman of Chapelford Residents Association, said: “They said they couldn’t give us a final date. We have been working on it for seven years, what else do we need to do? We seem to be in a catch 22 situation and we do not seem to be getting anywhere.”

Because the roads on their estate remain unadopted it means that they cannot get dog muck bins fitted because the council say they will not empty them, leaving residents concerned over the state of the pavements.

It also saw during the recent snowy weather main roads of the estate left ungritted despite developers David Wilson Homes putting aside money to pay for the roads gritted yet the council refused to grit, according to the residents association.

“Warrington Borough Council aren’t paying for roads or lighting so we asked what reduction can we expect in our council tax because we are not provided some services. They said none,” added Mr Weaver.

The residents group is also unhappy that Dakota Park, formely known as Millenium Park, is now six years behind schedule.

Mr Weaver said: “For anybody who has kids there is nowhere for them to play. They instead have to play on the roads.”

They say many had been told of the numerous schemes coming to the area that helped them to choose to move to Chapelford.

But they are still waiting to see the full range of amenities be built on the urban village area.

They are also calling on other residents living in Chapelford to get in touch with the residents association to help their campaign by visiting residentsontheweb.com/chapelford.
