Ahoy there to 33 years of service

A WARRINGTON born sailor has been presented with a certificate to mark his retirement.

Warrant officer Colin Parton, aged 49, who attended Richard Fairclough secondary modern school in Latchford, served for 33 years, and has strong family connections to the armed forces.

His brother Ken is also serving in the Royal Navy, and his sons Richard and Timothy have followed their dad’s lead and are members of the Army and Marines respectively. His parents, June and Walter, and sister Diane still live in Warrington WO Parton said: “I leave with a wealth of experience I could not have gained anywhere else. I have been to places and seen things many people only ever dream of.”

During his time with the Royal Navy WO Parton qualified as a ship’s diver, worked ashore as a specialist underwater engineer and between 2004 and 2005, was the head of engineering at the Iraqi naval base in Umm Qasr.

He received his award from his commanding officer Captain Steve Murdoch.
