NHS Warrington has supported a new campaign that encourages under-25s to say yes to chlamydia tests.
One in five people do not realise catching the infection can affect a woman’s fertility, according to a survey marking the launch of the ‘Chlamydia. Worth Talking About’ campaign.
The Populus survey of 2,000 young adults and parents showed that superficial knowledge and a casual attitude to England’s most prevalent STI could be risking the nation’s sexual health. Last year alone nearly 60,000 15 to 24-year-olds tested positive for the infection.
Kerry Broadhead, NHS Warrington’s head of commissioning and health improvement said: “We offer our full support to the campaign.
“NHS Warrington remains committed to reducing the incidence of chlamydia in our young people through actively promoting and encouraging both chlamydia Screening and safer sexual health practices.”
The PCT works with the Terrence Higgins Trust, a sexual health charity, GPs and community sexual health services to undertake and co-ordinate screening throughout Warrington.
Kerry added: “As part of our approach we are working with pubs, clubs, colleges and clinics to provide information and free testing for young people as well as providing free postal testing kits.”
