SHOPPERS turned out to see the doors to a new supermarket open in the heart of the town.
Asco supermarket bills itself as the real alternative for shoppers and the first one in the country opened last Saturday where Woolworths once stood on Sankey Street.
Leader of Warrington Borough Council, Clr Ian Marks did the honour of cutting the ribbon, letting shoppers take a look inside the first of what the company, based in Warrington, hope to be many stores across the region.
Clr Marks said: “I’m honoured that they’ve chosen Warrington for their first store and for their head office.
“The council has been working very closely with you on a scheme to get people who were previously unemployed into work. I think 18 people have joined you through this scheme which is wonderful.”
