SHADOW culture secretary Jeremy Hunt visited Warrington on Monday as a guest of David Mowat, the Tory prospective parliamentary candidate for Warrington South.
Meeting at Warrington Town Football Club, Mr Hunt talked to members of the media about how important it was that local newspapers, radio and regional television survive to ensure local democracy. He said it was vital for the communities that they serve.
Mr Hunt is proposing deregulation of the rules surrounding media ownership, in an attempt to attract major new international investors into Britain He plans to change the cross-media ownership rules, which prevent regional newspaper groups from investing in local radio and television.
