The craters in the dusty gravel road are evidence of how dangerous this route is for British troops to travel along. One of them was created when a convoy of vehicles was making its way towards Basharan, north west of Lashkar Gah, in Helmand, Afghanistan.Guardsman Steven Cooper, 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards, was at the wheel of an armoured Mastiff when it was blown into the air by a huge explosion.
