STARS in the making can experience a masterclass from a professional musician by entering a young classical music competition.
The Warrington Competition for Young Musicians 2010 is open to musicians who will be under the age of 19 on April 1, 2010 and live in the WA, CH, CW, L or BL postcode areas.
Organised by WACIDOM, Warrington Arts Council Initiative for the Development of Music, it offers entrants a written adjudication of their performance, a presentation and platform skills workshop and the opportunity to rehearse and perform with a professional accompanist.
Heats will be held at Arley Hall near Warrington from January to March with a final held on Sunday, March 28. Cash prizes of up to £400 will be on offer for the prize winners of two divisional categories.
Norman Cutter, WACIDOM chairman, said: “Having started in 1998 for musicians only from Warrington, we now cover the bulk of Cheshire and the Merseyside and Bolton postcode areas.
“WACIDOM has a very high reputation amid the classical music community in the north west. For example, the winner of the BBC2 Classical Star Musician has also performed for us in the current series.”
Musicians can find out how to enter and download an application form at musicinwarrington.org.uk.
The closing date for entries is November 21.
