Success for market manager in awards

WARRINGTON Market manager Steve Pickering has won a top award in the 2009 council worker of the year awards.

Steve won the innovation category following a public vote.

Steve was nominated by his manager, Peter Moffatt, for his tireless promotion of the market and his strong commitment to seeing the market successfully through the current economic downturn.

Peter Moffatt, head of properties and facilities said the council, said: "The quality of innovations Steve has introduced at Warrington Market lately meant nominating him for this award was the easiest decision I've made this year.”

And Steve added: “Obviously I am extremely proud to win this award and I would like to thank everyone in the town who voted for me and sent kind messages of support during this campaign.

“ I would particularly like to thank all our market traders who have played a huge role in this achievement.”

Steve picked up his award at a ceremony in Harrogate on Thursday from John Denham MP, minister for communities and local Government.
