THE get-away car used by robbers to flee Ikea in Westbrook with £30,000 has been sighted in Liverpool.

The retail store was robbed by three men dressed in black and armed with an axe just before closing time at 11.10pm on Monday.

They assaulted one of two staff members outside the shop at the time and forced him to take them to the safe from which they loaded up shopping trolleys with the cash before fleeing in a dark Audi saloon car.

Officers from Merseyside Police spotted the Audi at 1.50am on Sherwood Street in Liverpool but the car escaped from the officers along Great Harwood Street heading in the direction of Crosby.

Items were later discovered at the location relating to the armed robbery.

Anybody who witnessed the car or saw anything suspicious in the area at that time is asked to call Cheshire Police on 0845 4580000.
