How former Woolworths worker found employment with Job Centre Plus

WHEN Woolworths closed in January its employees were faced with the daunting task of finding work in the midst of a recession.

One of the Warrington branches’ team leaders was one of the lucky ones who got a new job almost immediately – with the Job Centre Plus.

Kirsty Rice was the out-of-hours team leader when the shop famously closed its doors in January.

Workers from the Job Centre went to Woolworths in its last few days to advise staff on benefits.

“I made a comment saying I wouldn’t mind working somewhere like the JobCentre and a week later she rang me saying there was a opening,” said Kirsty.

Now Kirsty is a new claims receptionist. She spent exactly 44 days out of work.

“It wasn’t too long but it was too long to be sat at home,” she said.
