MORE than 1,000 employees of Marks and Spencer face an uncertain future after the retailer announced cuts following a fall in sales.
The long-running business plans to close 25 of its small Simply Food stores and another two of its normal stores.
The closures will result in the loss of 780 jobs. A further 450 positions will be made redundant in the head office.
Cut-backs follow a drop in sales by seven per cent in the 13 weeks leading up to December 27 Two further big high street names announced drops in sale figures over the Christmas period.
Next, who is known for it’s price slashes recorded a seven per cent fall and Debenhams said its sales had dropped by just over three per cent in the last 12 weeks.
